Named in memory of my father, James Brown, who told many funny stories about picking blackberries as a boy in Schuyler, Virginia. The color of this daylily brings back memories of fresh blackberry cobblers and homemade blackberry wine. The white buds and midribs really stand out against the wine red color, and rebloom gives an extended bloom season. A sibling to Margaret's Curls, it was selected from a cross that produced a wide array of colors, all tall and fragrant.

Hybridizer’s Notes
A cross of two daylilies from the program of my friend and hybridizing mentor, Tim Herrington. The name is intended to honor his influence with a little humor. I wasn't sure if I would get orange or red by crossing 'Halloween Green' and 'Fried Green Tomatoes', but I hoped to get a green throat and the good branching that are prevalent to Herrington daylilies. The resulting rich strawberry red has very smoothly finished petals with a subtle halo that accentuates the green throat and cream midribs, making it very showy in the garden.

A continuation of Pat's hybridizing for green, I can imagine her exclaiming 'Booyah' when she saw the very green throat, on this daylily. Since the petals and sepals roll up and twist, the actual bloom diameter is about 9" when the segments are stretched out. Garden visitors are drawn to its vivid green throat and charming bloom presentation.

This 99% double ended up being a very magical cross of Cotton Candy Cupcake x Grape Cupcake. This ‘Cupcake’ is simply one that will make you just melt when you see it.
